Step 1 – Review Current Arrangements

Start by engaging in a conversation with all existing contractors about their work on site and the health and safety implications arising.  We and the contractor have an obligation to consult and communicate with each other and coordinate our activities. This applies to all contractors, including the likes of courier drivers.

Regardless of what the past practice has been, it’s time to get the relationship on a proper footing to ensure that we and the contractor comply with our respective obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation.

Note:

• This process primarily applies to contracting situations that arise from time to time; and to existing arrangements already in place.
• Significant building or other contracting works (such as replacing an air conditioning system) will primarily be managed by the building owner.
